Story about

~The Tale~

Carl Fredricksen, a 78 year-old curmudgoenly balloon salesman, is not your average hero. When he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America, he finally fulfills his life long dream of adventure. But after discovering an 8-year-old stowaway named Russell, this unlikely duo soon find themselves on a hilarious journey in a lost world filled with danger and suprises.

~The Character~

In Up, the character design was simplified to the essence of the characters personalities. Carl was a square to symbolize his feelinngs of being stagnated and stuck, while Russell was a circle, always moving and optimistic. It was important for Director Pete Docter to convey as much as possible about the characters using only simple visual cues. So when the audiences see a character for the first time they already get a felling of the personality.

~Behind The Scenes~

"Simplexity"is a term devised by the creators of Up which means " the art of simplifying an image down to its essence. But the complexity that you layer on top of it-in texture, design, or detail is masked by how simple the form is." Up's designers wanted to push the envelope to see how far they could go in expressing the essence of a firgure or setting creating a caricature where the key elements are highlighted while still retaining believability.
